License
Hi,
Thanks for releasing Llama 3 as an open access model! I noticed that in marketing materials Meta has called this model "open sourced," however unfortunately the license does not classify as an open source license according to the OSI. Firstly, it prohibits commercial use for companies with >700M MAU, secondly it prohibits improving other models based on its outputs, and finally requires attribution on all deployments and requires all finetuned models to be have "Llama 3" in their name.
When Phi 2 changed their license to the MIT license, it sparked a wave of new finetunes and other improvements. If Llama 3's license is changed, it will likely increase usage by the open source community and promote development of incredible finetunes and extensions of the model.
Is there any chance the license could be changed to make this an open source release?
Thank you so much for your incredible work!
Agreed! An OSI-approved license such as Apache-2.0 / MIT (adopted by Mistral / Phi) would be greatly appreciated!

all the talks about "open source" from Meta seem to be just that, talks
Thanks for raising this issue. You’re spot on imho.

Agreed. Always try to NOT change the license because it'll usually say it's "unsupported".
